Hello all

This is me - http://www.coventry.ac.uk/cu/schoolofartanddesign/industrialdesign/staff/a/422.

Meanwhile, I am interested in the link between threshold concepts and immersive experiences - one of the CEPAD aims (Centre of Excellence for Product and Automotive Design) is identifying threshold concepts in industrial design. A threshold concept is defined by Meyer and Land (2003): as that which ‘...can be considered as akin to a portal, opening up a new and previously inaccessible way of thinking about something. They represent a transformed way of understanding, or interpreting, or viewing something without which the learner cannot progress.’ (2003).

Since 2003, people in varied disciplines have been investigating threshold concepts and the notion is gaining currency as allowing us to view the 'heart' of a course - which is often unarticulated, but represents the point at which students suddenly 'get it'. As such it is possible that an immersive experience may well precede this moment.

Comments welcome.
