Doing a PhD

 

What were the particular characteristics of the situation that engaged you in an immersive way?

  • Challenging information to take on board
  • Studies over time
  • Included integrating individual perspective
  • Included research
  • Included small support group of peers, meeting regularly over 4 years
  • Included some one to one tuition as well as cohort ‘taught’ lessons

 

What forms of learning / personal development / change emerged from the situation?

An understanding of what research meant and what it meant to do as a perfect a piece of work as possible

Confidence in my ability to be accepted as a colleague in a hitherto closed world to me (medicine)

 

What words/concepts/feelings would you use to describe the immersive experience?

Exhilarating, challenging, transforming, long-lasting

 

What principles or lessons can be drawn from this story?   

That the answers to Q2 might be part of the design for an immersive learning experience.
